Rise to the Coal Mine Crisis!
An Entertainment Show of Love and Courage

1965, Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture. The Joban Coal Mine, the largest coal mine on Honshu, is facing major staff cuts, and its former prosperity as a key industry is now a distant memory. To save the town, a major project is launched to create a "Hawaii Paradise" in this northern region. The highlight of the show is a hula dance show. A dance teacher is brought in from Tokyo to teach the hula to coal miners who only know the Bon Odori dance. At first, the proud former star dancer mocks the coal mines and the amateur coal miners, but her forgotten passion is soon rekindled by the girls' single-minded enthusiasm. While each one faces harsh realities, the coal miners, supported by their friendship, learn the essence of hula to become strong and beautiful.
